Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

Author Guidelines

1) Revista Paranaense de Desenvolvimento – RPD, is published by the Instituto Paranaense de Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social (IPARDES), linked to the State Secretary of Planning and General Coordination.

RPD accepts to evaluate unpublished articles written in a concise and consistent manner and are preferably about subjects related to social and economic issues that aim to interpret the development of Parana and Brazil, and the insertion of the economy and society in new tendencies outlined by the current transformation process of the global economy.

The following contributions will be accepted:

a) Article: must be an original academic and/or technical contribution to disseminate results of scientific research, of an empirical, experimental or conceptual nature (minimum of 12 and a maximum of 18 pages, including title, abstract, tables, figures, maps and references).

b) Reference Review: critical and systematic literature evaluation about certain subject; the purpose for the review should be mentioned, the literature search criteria and the researched universe should be methodologically specified, the discussion should approach the obtained results and suggest further reseach in order to fill the gaps in the present body of knowledge (minimum of 12 and a maximum of 18 pages, including title, abstract, tables, figures, maps and references).

c) Essay: circumstantiated consideration, with writing suitable for a scientific publication, in which the author has more latitude to support his points of view. An essay should deepen the debate or present a new contribution about matter of relevance (minimum of 12 and a maximum of 18 pages, including title, abstract, tables, figures, maps and references).

d) Book Review: critical analysis of book published in the last two years (no more than 6 pages, with the same format requested above, including complete reference in the caption).

2) Contribution submitted by Postgraduate student (Master’s or Doctorate degrees) will be accepted only if written in co-authorship with his/ her thesis conselour, according to suggestion of Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES).

3) The text will be assessed by two reviewers, through the blind review system, and subsequently it could be:

  1. Accepted without restrictions;
  2. Approved if the proposed alterations are made – with or without the need of peer reviewer rereading;
  3. Partially rejected, when broad modifications are needed, with suggestion of resubmission for new evaluation and decision;
  4. Rejected.

4) RPD reserves the right to avoid publishing the same author at intervals of less than four editions.

5) The author(s) undertake(s) to assure the appropriate grammatical revisions in the submitted text, and obtain copyright permissions in relation to images, figures, tables, maps, methods, etc., included in the manuscript, from the corresponding authors or editors, when applicable.

6) Article accepted for publication may be translated into English, we suggest American Journal Experts (www.journalexperts.com) paid by the authors.

7) When alterations merely regard grammar, orthography or normative aspects, in order to maintain the publication’s homogeneity, the text will be revised by the journal’s publishing team – which will reserve the right to make the necessary modifications – respecting the author’s style and the paper’s content. In other cases, the author should make the adjustements according to the peer reviewer’s suggestions.

8) Articles and all published texts become property of the Revista Paranaense de Desenvolvimento – RPD. Full or partial printing is subject to clear and precise mention of provenance, through the quotation of edition number, date and electronic address.

9) The texts may be submitted in either of three idioms: portuguese, spanish or english.

10) Articles should be written according to the presentation standards from Associação Brasileira de Normas Técnicas (ABNT) – NBR 6022, from May 2003.

11) For articles in Spanish or English, authors must use Brazilian Standards of the ABNT, as specified in the previous item.

12) Online submission of articles. Texts are submitted solely through the address: http://www.ipardes.pr.gov.br/ojs/index.php/revistaparanaense/index

  • Only submissions sent electronically using the journal´s website will be accepted.
  • The file containing the manuscript, which is attached (transferred) when submitted, cannot exceed 3 MB.

13) If the author is already registered, it is only necessary to login and follow the submission steps. In order to register, the author should fill the form available through the “Não está cadastrado?” link.

14) Then, the author must click on Author and initiate the article submission process. There are five steps. Authors are reminded to save at the end of every stage:

  1. Start a New Submission
  2. Upload Submission File
  3. Enter metadata
  4. Uploading Supplementary Files
  5. Confirmation

15) Anonymity:prior to submitting a text, authors are requested to remove name(s) of the author or any identification of the submitted file, including from the Properties option in Wordor to submission the author should remove name(s) and any other form of identification from the sent text file.

16) General text characteristics:

- A4 size paper

- Margins = 2.5 cm

- Paragraph with first line indent = 1.5 cm

If possible, avoid footnotes. If used, however, place at the end of the page with continuous numbering.

17) The article must be presented as follows:

a) Title

The header title should be aligned to the left, in black capital letters. It should have no more than 15 words and be written in Portuguese, with following English and Spanish versions.

b) Abstract and keywords

The abstract should have no less than 100 and no more than 250 words and describe the text’s main approach. It should be clear and concise, written in a single justified paragraph with single spacing, comprising objective, methodology, results and conclusions.

Five keywords, that best describe the subject, should be chosen.

Abstract and keywords should follow the title, and also have Portuguese, English and Spanish versions, in that order.

c) Body Text

It is suggested that the text follows the sequence Introduction, Methodology or Methodological/ operational proceedings, Chapters or subdivisions, Final considerations or Conclusions, and Bibliographical references.

d) Tables, figures, graphs and maps

These elements must be inserted in the text and should also be submitted as supplementary documents in separate files.

e) Citations

Direct quotations, with no more than three lines, should use double quotation marks in the Body Text.

For example:

Carvalho and Schmitz (1990, p.149) state that "until the 70s, the principles of Fordism internationally guided administration in the automobile industry and in other mass production industries”.

Direct quotations, with more than three lines, should be detached, without quotation marks, using 4 cm indent, 10 point font, single alignment.

Direct quotes with more than three lines (long quotes) must be highlighted:

- with 4cm indent in the left margin;

- size 10 font;

- spacing before and after of 12 pt;

- line spacing of exactly 14 pt, without speech marks. Example:

The city of Ponta Grossa has a steelworks tradition that dates back to the mate economy, when the municipal urban planning process began. This period was marked by the presence of German immigrants (Russian-German), followed by Polish and Italian immigrants, who were chiefly responsible for the production of wagons and labour in ironwork shops, activities that led to the birth of the metal and mechanics sector in Ponta Grossa (LAROCCA JR.; LINS, 2002, cited by IPARDES, 2006, p.84).

18) References (quoted within the text)

The ‘References’ item should only contain text, articles and documents that were used in the body of the text.

The first name of the author should be written in full or using the initials of the first name only. The same style should be maintained for all reference works.

The journal recommends that twenty percent (20%) of bibliographic references and/or quotations should be articles that are part of the international bases, such as: SciELO, Scopus or ISI Web of Knowledge, and for a maximum of 10 years.

Authors should avoid self-citations and citing monographs, dissertations and theses, annals, abstracts, extended abstracts, newspapers and magazines.

Citations should be drafted as follows, according to the ABNT:

When there is no reference to the author’s name, the first relevant word fromn the title is written in capital letters. The term “anonymous” is not used.

O manuscrito na modalidade de 'revisão de literatura' é uma avaliação crítica sistematizada da literatura sobre determinado assunto; procura citar o objetivo da revisão, especificar métodos, os critérios de busca na literatura e o universo pesquisado, discute os resultados obtidos e sugere estudos no sentido de preencher lacunas do conhecimento atual.

Ensaios

Os ensaios publicados são inéditos oriundos de uma reflexão circunstanciada, que visa aprofundar a discussão ou apresentar uma nova contribuição/abordagem a respeito de tema relevante.

Resenhas

As resenhas são uma análise crítica sobre livro publicado nos últimos dois anos.
