INDUSTRIALIZAÇÃO E DESENVOLVIMENTO REGIONAL NO BRASIL: A EXPERIÊNCIA PARANAENSE DE DESENVOLVIMENTO

Abstract

This article aims to demonstrate the dynamics of the manufacturing industry in Paraná in the context of the Brazilian economy's deceleration, which the State is a part of, as well as the impacts of the global financial crisis that happened in 2008. The many industrial segments of Paraná are involved in a variety of national and worldwide economic processes, with some being more closely related to domestic consumer activities and others to global value chains. Information on employment and establishments collected from RAIS were employed as an analytical tool, and the approach of Exploratory Analysis of Spatial Data (AEDE) was used. As a result of the main findings, it was possible to determine that the sectors most serving the domestic market, specifically Non-Durable Consumer Goods (BCND), were the ones that suffered the least from the 2008 crisis, primarily the manufacture of food products, which, in the face of a decrease in domestic income and unemployment, is more focused on the foreign market, taking advantage of the opportunities that have opened up in this market segment. Intermediate Goods, which are more integrated into global value chains and form a big spatial cluster lead by the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba, had the highest spatial autocorrelation, according to the AEDE. Consumer durable and capital goods, on the other hand, are exclusively found in the state's main metropolises, notably in the regions of Curitiba, Londrina, and Maringá, and are the ones that have been most affected by the slowdown in economic growth since 2008.
