Abstract

Nowadays, the PRT-163 highway connects Toledo municipality to Marechal Cândido Rondon  municipality (State of Paraná) which were formerly connected by PR-239, where the municipalities of Quatro Pontes, Novo Sarandi and Vila Nova are located; they are also connected to Toledo. After the end of PRT-163 highway works, the distance between Toledo and Marechal Cândido Rondon was shortened by 17 km. Using primary data collected in Quatro Pontes, Novo Sarandi and Vila Nova, the present article tries to analyze whether or not there is the possibility of some economic and social impacts on these areas due to the redirectionong of part of vehicle flow from PR-239 to PRT-163. As a result we inferred that there will be minimum financial losses from this new traffic directioning, and besides that, such losses  will be compensated by the gains in the quality of life of those municipalities
