ÁGUAS E SANEAMENTO BÁSICO: APONTAMENTOS SOBRE A EVOLUÇÃO FUTURA NO PARANÁ

Abstract

Paraná is a geographically privileged state in terms of water resources. Despite this, there is a growing concern about the population supply, especially in large urban centers. The population and economic growth, as well as the demands for natural resources, is distinct between cities throughout the state, causing imbalances in the supply of water and sanitation. This article seeks to raise the projections of water demands, already made available by competent bodies in the country, and identify needs in sanitation, in order to list possible bottlenecks to long-term economic development. Therefore, a documentary research was carried out, as well as a brief literature review on the subject, highlighting the reading in which the growth of water demand is considered under four scopes: human, economic, ecosystem and resilience. Access to water is an essential condition for maintaining life and productive activities. The potential pollution of rivers in large cities, especially in the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba, can be circumvented with efficient measures and strategic studies, as highlighted by the State Water Resources Plan of Paraná. Regarding sanitation, there is a permanence of attention to the sewage collection network, for which there is a significant margin for indices closer to universalization and that are accentuated in areas of the interior of the state.
