Abstract

This article has, as its main objective, to measure the agricultural labor market in the Paraná state, with emphasis on job growth at rural areas. The selected databases used in the analysis are the 2006 Agropastoral Census (Censo Agropecuário 2006), and the administrative records from the Ministry of Labor and Employment (Ministério do Trabalho e Emprego) – comprehending the period from 2007 to 2009. Examining the statistics from these sources, it is possible to find discrepancies between the figures of occupied persons and the figures of formal employed personnel in the state’s agropastoral sector. The  tendency of decreasing number of occupied persons in the sector continues, through the process of agricultural technological modernization. In the opposite direction, the formal employment at rural areas advances, with growth on both permanent and temporary employment.
