Abstract

The present article aims at analyzing the social sustainability concept evolution. After contextualizing the discussions on this concept, we can notice that in the last three decades it still predominates a type of focus that benefits the technical changes which contribute to improve life quality, although there was progress concerning its formulation. Its application, both in the development policy definition and academic discussions, is carried out without acknowledging the existence of certain barriers that limit the social sustainability feasibility. Those barriers limit the social sustainability feasibility and are placed by the capitalist system functioning own logic.
