Abstract

This article discusses the transformations occurred in the cattle raising and farming cooperative systems in Northern Paraná from 1970 to 1998, through analysying the capitalization and growth process of two cooperatives originated from the coffee plantation economy. The results revealed these cooperatives had two instances. The first instance is highlighted by deep internal transformations: structural growth, increase of its own capital and positive operational results. In the second one, the structural growth was not expressive, with low capacity to generate surplus and difficulty for self-support. From this second instance, it was possible to observe changes in the environment, bringing a new reality to this sector.
