Abstract

Lately, the migration effects on Paraná population dimension has diminished considerably. Nevertheless, the importance of its effects on the internal area distribution are growing since migration is causing the formation of extensive vacant areas, opposed to a few points of high concentration. The present article, highlights inter and within-state population flows, as well as meso-regional ones, happening between 1986-91 and 1991-96, in different state regions. Based on the measurement of their dimension and direction, the article identifies important processes arising out of the recent migration dynamics. Such processes are conformed by the shortage of job opportunity at national level, due to substantial reduction of population flows towards other states. Nowadays, an intense population flow interchange remains in the State countryside, mainly towards urban centers, having urban agglomeration as its dominant vector.
