Abstract

The objective of the present work is to discuss the behavior of the forest based sector in the State of the Paraná and its specialized regional segments. The study intends to characterize
the productive specialization and to articulate the existing stages of the lumber chain in the specialized regions, with examination that extends from the forest bases to converted products. The characteristics and structural changes of the sector and its characteristics in the specialized regions are analyzed. The results show that, although the recent crisis of the sector, the exchange rate appreciation and the environmental legal restrictions, the lumber industry from Paraná presented improvements in its productive performance. This is particularly relevant for Paraná, since this segment is the largest industrial employer in the State.
