Abstract

Based on academic research, this paper points out the relevant position of Brazilian ceramic tile industry in terms of national industrial context and of its international insertion. The
national production supplies the whole domestic demand being also the fifth largest production activity and the fifth exportation
trade as well in the world. The competitive position attained by this industry derives from the adoption of international patterns of
production, from its acquisitions of equipment and machinery, from its close relation with major raw material suppliers, from its product diversification (towards the market niches) and from the efforts endeavored to increase its insertion internationally
