Abstract

This article analyses the evolution of the Index of Gini of the per capita household income, during the period 2001 to 2005, in the State of Paraná, in the Southern Region of Brazil and throughout the country as a whole. Firstly,  the literature on Brazilian inequality income and its recent reduction is revised. Secondly,
making use of PNAD´s (National Household Sample Survey), a decomposition of Index of Gini is accomplished, where shares of
household income are derived. In conclusion, a reduction of income inequality is remarked in Brazil, in the Southern Region and in State of Paraná.
