Abstract

This work has as main objective to provide an evaluation of international immigration in the Brazilian Amazon, focusing on the migrants from countries located at the Amazon borders, such as Peru, Bolivia, Colombia and Paraguay. The idea is to analyze this migrant population, examining information on age, level of study, income, gender, occupation in Brazil and date of arrival. A location pattern for this migrant population is also displayed, whether if is resident of municipalities close to the border, or large cities – state capitals or not. In order to accomplish this, statistics from the 2000 demographic census and from the 2007 population count are used to produce a recent analysis.
