Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze the behavior of wage returns on education for the state of Paraná, Brazil, in relation to intensified educational expansion that started in the beginning of the 1990s. This study was conducted using micro data from National Household Sample Survey (PNAD), from 1995 and 2009, with correction to bias of selectivity. Wage returns on education based on school level (elementary, middle and high school and college) were also considered. Results suggest that the highest levels of education carry the best returns, and an overall decrease of returns in 2009 in relation to 1995. Consequently, inequality of salary distribution is reduced as a result of a reduction in returns on education in Paraná, Brazil.
