Abstract

This article discusses the concept of geographical scale, through an exploratory and strictly theoretical approach. The aim is to highlight some aspects related to the nation state role in the configuration of socio-spatial arrangements at capitalist economies. The text confronts two different, but non-excludable approaches: one is merely "perspectival" and another, based primarily on original contributions from Neil Smith, emphasizes the spatial dimension of the capital accumulation process. The paper concludes that the latter provides a more comprehensive analytical perpective on the complex spatiality of capitalist economies. It allows to elucidate many of the issues related to the constant scalar redefinition of the modern nation state.
