Abstract

The general objective of the study is to present a comparative analysis of the evolution of irrigated areas and the use of water in agriculture for municipalities in Paraná. For this discussion to be possible, data from irrigated areas and technical coefficient of water use are used. The results are first presented for areas of municipal irrigated agriculture and, later, for water use in cubic meters (m³/year). The results show that the most advanced municipalities in the consultative use of water resources for irrigated agriculture would be Rosário do Ivaí in an additional 153%; Wenceslau Braz expected expansion of 140%; Peabiru 86% expansion; Four Bridges 108% advance. Other municipalities would tend to reduce consumptive use, as is the case of Rebouças and Campina da Lagoa, but the expected advance in water use would remain at an additional 18% in the state, going from just over 190 million m³/year in 2017 to more than 226 million m³/year in 2030. The data also show the expansion of soy, corn, wheat, sugarcane agriculture, and the production of other irrigated crops, such as grapes and tomatoes.
