Abstract

This article is part of the first author's master's thesis and seeks to evaluate the effects of economic growth in the municipality of Itaguaí-RJ in promoting its development from the perspective of the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations. According to this, decent work has great relevance for achieving sustainable development. It is assumed that the changes arising from economic growth were not sufficient to promote better living conditions for a large part of the population, based on the variables unemployment and income transfer. This research has an inductive and qualitative approach, as it seeks to answer the research question based on previous investigations, and makes use of a secondary database, bibliographic review and research into socioeconomic data made available by official sources. It is hoped that this study will contribute to subsidizing inclusive development projects. Starting from an understanding that classes that do not own the means of production have the right to decent work in the capitalist system, the research demonstrated that the industrialization taking place in the municipality has primarily favored the capital's logic of wealth concentration, and does not demonstrate guarantees employment for the majority of the municipality’s population.
