The Social Capital and Dairy Network of São Jorge D’Oeste, in Paraná

This study has as its theme to social capital and its importance for development. Upon such sense, the study presents the results of research for the purpose of analyse the existing share of social capital in the dairy network in São Jorge D’Oeste, located in the Southwest of Paraná. The study, which had an approach of qualitative research of descriptive and explanatory feature, used semi-structured interviews and observation as data collection techniques. To analyse the results the UNICET 6.392 and NetDraw softwares were used, verifying the centrality of the network characters and to build the sociogram, seeking to demonstrate the network ties. Furthermore, the data were analysed by the procedures prescribed for content analysis. As per the results, the presence of a good level of social capital in the investigated scenario was identified, with the establishment of strong ties between the actors of the dairy network. It might be inferred that the importance of dairy cattle is unique for small producers as well as to the local economy. The studied social network revealed that the existing share capital contributes to the development of these producers bringing benefits and gains by bonds of trust, reciprocity and cooperation.
